# Recall Canary > Recall Canary is a free, read-only aggregator of U.S. federal product recalls from four agencies: the FDA (food, drugs, medical devices, cosmetics), USDA FSIS (meat, poultry, egg products), CPSC (consumer products) and NHTSA (vehicles and auto equipment). Coverage starts with 2026: every FDA recall the FDA first published on or after 2026-01-01 (even if the company began it earlier), and USDA FSIS, CPSC and NHTSA recalls announced on or after 2026-01-01 that reached Recall Canary within 180 days of the announcement. The site is updated at least daily. Recall pages link to the agency's own notice, and the agency notice is authoritative. Each record shows the agency's own class or warning; Recall Canary assigns no severity of its own. Titles, summaries and "What to do" text are written by Recall Canary with the help of AI, and each `/data/` JSON record names those fields in its `ai_generated` object. The public JSON API is under `/data/` and needs no key or account. The home page, `/recalls` and `/status` also answer in Markdown when asked with `Accept: text/markdown`. License: recall records the agencies write are U.S. government works and in the public domain (17 U.S.C. 105); reusing them needs no attribution, though crediting the agency is encouraged. Some notices the FDA posts are announcements written by the recalling company; those words are the company's, quoted as published. Recall Canary's own text (including display titles, summaries, "What to do" text, curation and clustering, and the uniform presentation of each agency's own class or warning) is licensed under CC-BY-4.0, with three conditions stated on the data license page: attribution to "Recall Canary" with a link back to the source page, a snapshot timestamp recording when the text was captured, and preservation of the AI provenance marker (or an equivalent in-band attribution) where AI-written text is redistributed. ## Data - [Recall list (JSON)](https://recallcanary.com/data/recalls): the filterable, paginated list, 50 records a page. It takes the same query parameters as the `/recalls` page: `q`, `agency`, `category`, `severity`, `state`, `hazard`, `firm`, `date`, `from`, `to`, `sort` and `page`. One full record is at `/data/recall/{agency}/{slug}`, where `{agency}` is `cpsc`, `fda`, `fsis`, `nhtsa` or `admin` and `{slug}` is the record's slug (its id also works and redirects to the slug). - [Change feed (JSON)](https://recallcanary.com/data/changes): every record whose published content changed since a point in time, oldest first, including removals. Pass `since` (an ISO-8601 date, or an instant with a zone) and follow `pagination.next`. - [OpenAPI 3.1 description](https://recallcanary.com/data/openapi.json): the machine-readable contract for the list, detail and change-feed endpoints. - [MCP server card](https://recallcanary.com/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json): describes the Model Context Protocol server at `/data/mcp` on this site, which speaks Streamable HTTP, stateless, read-only, no authentication. Send JSON-RPC by POST to that address; a plain GET answers 405. Tools: `search_recalls` and `get_recall`. - [RSS feed](https://recallcanary.com/rss.xml): the newest records across every agency, up to 100. Narrow it with the listing's filters as query parameters (`agency`, `category`, `severity`, `state`, `hazard`, `firm` and `q`), for example `?agency=FDA` or `?category=FOOD&severity=CRITICAL`; each filtered feed is its own subscription. ## Agent skills - [Query the JSON API](https://recallcanary.com/.well-known/agent-skills/query-recall-data.md): every `/data/recalls` parameter with its allowed values, the response envelope, the `ai_generated` markers, the license, pagination, caching and the change feed. - [Search the recall listing](https://recallcanary.com/.well-known/agent-skills/search-recalls.md): the `/recalls` URL grammar and how to read results from the page's JSON-LD. - [Feeds, sitemaps, status and detail URLs](https://recallcanary.com/.well-known/agent-skills/recall-feeds.md): the RSS feed and its filters, the sitemap index, the `/status` JSON and the recall-page URL contract. ## Reference - [About](https://recallcanary.com/about): what Recall Canary is, where its data comes from, and what it writes itself. - [How risk is rated](https://recallcanary.com/how-risk-is-rated): how each agency's own class or warning is shown. - [Data license](https://recallcanary.com/data-license): the full terms for agency records and for Recall Canary's own text. - [Press and citation](https://recallcanary.com/press): how to describe Recall Canary, the credit line to use, and the logo. - [Status](https://recallcanary.com/status): ingest freshness for each source, as JSON. ## Optional - [Blog](https://recallcanary.com/blog): guides to the U.S. recall system and what to do when a product you own is recalled. - [Weekly archive](https://recallcanary.com/recalls/weeks): each week since the week of December 29, 2025 with its recalls, one permanent page per Monday-to-Sunday UTC week at `/recalls/week/YYYY-MM-DD` (the Monday), filed by each recall's date: for FDA the day FDA first posted it to its Enforcement Report (or, when earlier, the company's announcement on FDA's site or the day Recall Canary first listed it; FDA's classification date when its posted date is not known), for USDA FSIS and CPSC the agency's announcement, for NHTSA the day the manufacturer filed its defect report, which NHTSA publishes days to weeks later. The About page explains each date. - [Embed widget](https://recallcanary.com/embed): an iframe of the newest recalls for a category, agency, hazard, firm or state, for other websites. - [Sitemap index](https://recallcanary.com/sitemap-index.xml): every indexable page, including recall pages.
