Upstream recall records: PUBLIC DOMAIN

The underlying recall records are works of the U.S. federal government and are in the public domain in the United States (17 U.S.C. § 105). Recall Canary imposes no additional claim on the upstream text it republishes.

Editorial layer: CC-BY-4.0

Recall Canary's editorial layer is offered under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC-BY-4.0). The editorial layer includes:

• Severity mappings (Recall Canary rules, not agency-assigned severity).
• Display titles, display summaries, and consumer-action text (AI-derived display text).
• Curation and clustering decisions.
• Editorial tooltips, provenance attributes, and page structure.

AI-generated content attribution

Enriched display text (titles, summaries, and consumer actions) is produced by a routed mix of large language models and then formatted by Recall Canary's editorial pipeline. The recall page provenance line indicates whether a given record has been editorially formatted.

The specific routed model drifts over time as the pipeline is tuned for cost and quality, so the provenance marker records that a record is AI-derived, not a pinned model revision. The production model selection lives in the enrichment workflow configuration; it is not a fixed vendor model. Downstream consumers should assume the editorial layer is a moving target and record their own snapshot timestamps.

Redistribution

Redistribution of the editorial layer is permitted under CC-BY-4.0 with:

1. Attribution to "Recall Canary" with a link back to the source page.
2. A snapshot timestamp recording when the editorial text was captured, so downstream consumers can reason about freshness against the live editorial layer.
3. Preservation of the data-ai provenance marker where AI-generated text is redistributed, or an equivalent in-band attribution.

Redistribution of the upstream public-domain records requires no attribution under U.S. copyright law, but attributing the originating agency is strongly encouraged.

Source-agency data terms

Recall Canary acknowledges each source agency's data terms and usage guidelines:

• FDA: U.S. Food and Drug Administration enforcement reports and RSS feeds.
• FSIS: U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service recall API.
• CPSC: U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall API and RSS feeds.
• NHTSA: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall API.
