What happened
C.A.M.P. USA Inc., of Golden, Colorado, is recalling X-Dream, X-Dream Total Dry, X-All Mountain Hammer and X-All Mountain Adze mountain ice axes because a screw on the axes can loosen during use, causing the handle or pick to detach, posing a risk of serious injury or death from a fall hazard. The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on November 5, 2026, and involves about 2,230 units. No incidents have been reported.
The recalled ice axes, designed for vertical ice climbing, were sold at REI stores nationwide and online at Camp-usa.com, Backcountry.com, Amazon.com and REI.com from November 2025 through September 2026 for between $30 and $330.
The products were made in Italy and imported by C.A.M.P. USA Inc. The axes have “CAMP” written in white lettering on the shaft, and the batch number is located on the side of the shaft. The recalled nut and bolt kit was also sold as an accessory item as model number 3641.
Consumers should have the model and batch number available, which can be found on the side of the axes’ shaft. Consumers can contact C.A.M.P. for a free repair kit with instructions to repair the axes themselves, or have the firm repair the ice axes.
