The lithium-ion battery and electrical components in the hand warmers can overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury from fire and burn hazards.

What happened

Gobi Heat, of Severance, Colorado, is recalling its Gobi Heat Rechargeable Hand Warmers because the lithium-ion battery and electrical components can overheat and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury from fire and burn hazards. The recall involves about 5,500 units in the United States and about 47 in Canada. No incidents have been reported. The hand warmers were sold online at GobiHeat.com from October 2024 through August 2026 for between $20 and $40.

The recalled hand warmers are black with gray, sold in packs of two that can be magnetically joined and include a charging cable. They have a USB-C port, LED indicator lights on a hard plastic shell, and a silicone lanyard. “Gobi Heat” is printed on the top and packaging, with model number “UT3053” on the underside. The product was made in China.

Consumers should stop using the recalled hand warmers immediately and contact Gobi Heat for a full refund or store credit equal to the full refund plus 20% of that amount. Consumers should then dispose of the product with the lithium-ion battery in accordance with local and state hazardous waste regulations, and not throw it in the trash or general recycling.

What to do

If yours is listed below:

  1. Stop using the recalled hand warmers immediately and contact Gobi Heat for a full refund or store credit, equal to full refund of the purchase price plus 20% of that amount.
  2. You will be asked to go to gobiheat.com/pages/handwarmer-recall (opens in a new tab) to obtain a claim number and instructions to destroy the hand warmers by writing in permanent marker "Recalled" on the product and send a photo, showing the marked hand warmer and the product's model, to recall@gobiheat.com.
  3. Then dispose of the recalled product with the lithium-ion battery, in accordance with applicable local and state hazardous waste regulations.
  4. Note: Do not throw this recalled lithium-ion battery or device in the trash, the general recycling stream (e.g., street-level or curbside recycling bins), or used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores.
