CPSC recall,

Giant Bicycle LED-Light Bike Lock Keys

LED-light bike lock keys can allow easy access to button batteries, posing an ingestion hazard.

What happened

Giant Bicycle, Inc., of Newbury Park, California, is recalling LED-light bike lock keys that were included with certain SureLock Bicycle Lock sets. The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on October 8, 2026.

The LED-light key violates the mandatory safety standard for consumer products with button cell and coin batteries because the button batteries can be accessed easily by children, posing an ingestion hazard. The packaging and product also lack the warnings required under Reese’s Law. No incidents have been reported.

When button cell or coin batteries are swallowed, they can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns, and death.

The recalled product involves Giant Bicycle-branded black-and-white LED-light bike lock keys that came as part of a pre-keyed SureLock bicycle lock set, which includes a bike lock and two or four keys without an LED-light, depending on the model.

The keys were sold at Giant Bicycle authorized stores nationwide and online at giant-bicycles.com from March 2023 through August 2026 for between $25 and $65. The affected serial numbers are located on the underside of the bike lock. The locks were imported from China.

About 3,630 units were sold in the United States, and an additional 1,395 in Canada.

Consumers should stop using the recalled LED-light key immediately and contact Giant Bicycle for a $5 refund. Consumers will be asked to bring the LED key to an authorized Giant retailer, along with either the complete bicycle lock purchase or a picture of the serial number on the lock to verify it is in the recall scope.

Consumers may continue to use the bicycle lock and the non-LED-light keys included with the set. Button and coin cell batteries are hazardous and should be disposed of or recycled by following local hazardous waste procedures.
