What happened
Skip Hop Inc., of New York, is recalling the Baby Sesame Street Elmo Silicone Teether because the black eyes can detach from the teether if frozen, posing a risk of serious injury or death from a choking hazard. The recall was announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on September 3, 2026.
Skip Hop Inc. has received four consumer reports of the eyes detaching from the teether, with no injuries reported. About 22,660 units were sold in the United States, and about 3,177 were sold in Canada.
The teether is shaped like Elmo's face, which is red, orange, and white with black eyes, and includes a textured key in blue and a fabric crayon box in beige, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. A red tag with the Skip Hop brand name and the teether model number is attached to the side of the crayon box.
The product was sold at Carter's retail stores nationwide and online at carter's.com and skiphop.com from January 2025 through March 2026 for about $12. It was made in China, imported by The William Carter Company of Atlanta, Georgia, and distributed by Skip Hop Inc.
Consumers who have the recalled teether can receive a refund. The gift card for the refund can be used at any The William Carter Company brand store, including Carter's, Skip Hop, OshKosh B'gosh, and Little Planet.
