What happened

El Eden Import Distributor Corp., a Long Island City, N.Y. firm, recalled approximately 264 pounds of potato chip products containing chicharrón (pork cracklings) because they were produced in the Republic of Colombia, a country that is not eligible to export meat products to the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on September 9, 2026.

The mixed bags were imported on July 28, 2026, and there have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to consumption of these products.

The products subject to recall are 45-g. foil bags of “De Todito NATURAL” mixed chips with “CHICHARRÓN AMERICANO JACKS,” “Margarita,” and “NATU CHIPS,” and 45-g. foil bags of “De Todito BBQ” mixed chips with “CHICHARRÓN AMERICANO JACKS,” “Margarita,” and “NatuChips.”

These items do not bear any import marks on the labels and were shipped to a distributor in New Jersey and retail locations in New Jersey and Utah.

The problem was discovered when FSIS received a consumer complaint regarding “De Todito” snack products containing dried plantains, potato chips, and chicharrónes, pork cracklings, imported from Colombia, which is ineligible to import any meat or poultry product into the U.S. FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ pantries.
