What happened

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service issued a public health alert on July 29, 2026, for a Steak, Cilantro, Lime Burrito product due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen. The product contains egg, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

The alert was issued to ensure that consumers with allergies to egg are aware the product should not be consumed. A recall was not requested because the affected product is no longer available for purchase.

The product is a 3-lb 2-oz. carton containing 10 individually wrapped "RED'S STEAK CILANTRO AND LIME BURRITO" on the front package label, with production lots on the side of the package label. The individual products bear the establishment number "EST. 46069" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to Costco distribution locations in Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota.

The problem was discovered by a consumer who identified that the product contained in the carton was a different product, which contains egg, and had been incorrectly labeled.
