What happened

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC is recalling certain 2024-2027 Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 transit buses. The fuel tank cage material and fuel system mounting may be incompatible, which could result in a fuel leak during a crash, increasing the risk of a fire. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 301, "Fuel System Integrity."

The recall affects 160 vehicles nationwide. The issue was reported to NHTSA on August 10, 2026. Owner notification letters were mailed September 22, 2026.

Dealers will reconfigure components to accommodate the existing fuel tank cage, free of charge.
