NHTSA recall,
Volvo 9700 buses
Volvo 9700 buses have an emergency exit label missing operating instructions, which may delay exit and increase injury risk.
What happened
Volvo Bus Corporation is recalling certain 2009-2025 Volvo 9700 buses because the emergency exit label on the entrance door is missing the exit operating instructions. As a result, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 217, "Bus Emergency Exits and Window Retention and Release."
The missing information may prevent or delay the use of the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury. The recall affects 1,236 vehicles nationwide and was reported to NHTSA on September 18, 2026.
The remedy is that Prevost will replace the emergency exit identification labels, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 3, 2026.
