The week in recalls
Everyday things people trust most carried hidden problems, from a family SUV to a bag of chips. The recalls that mattered were the ones you could not see coming.
Recall CanaryUpdated
Time for this week's recall roundup. There were 57 recalls in all, and they were mostly vehicles and medical devices. The ones worth your time are a popular family SUV, a batch of potato chips, and a trailer you should not tow. Let's start with the SUV.
Toyota is recalling the Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid because the second-row seat backs may not lock into place. If a seat back does not lock, it can fold forward during a crash and hurt someone sitting behind it. That covers a lot of vehicles, so if you own one, check whether your second-row seats click firmly into position and watch for a notice from Toyota about a free fix. Ford is recalling the Ford Escape, Lincoln Corsair, Aviator, and Explorer because the rearview camera image can flip or turn upside down. That means when you shift into reverse, the picture on your screen may not show what is actually behind you, which makes backing up riskier. Ford will update the software at no cost.
Two food recalls are worth a minute. Miss Vickies Spicy Dill Pickle chips may contain milk that is not listed on the label, and Karns Foods Mini Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cups may contain peanuts. Both are a serious problem for anyone with a milk or peanut allergy, so check your pantry and throw them out if you have them.
That is the short version. You can find every recall from this week, with the full details and what to do about each one, in the list below.
