The week in recalls
A heavy week for medical devices and blood products, with a few food and vehicle recalls worth your attention. A pair of catheters and a kit that may carry mould top the list.
Recall CanaryUpdated
Here's this week's recall roundup. There were 123 recalls in all, and most of them were medical devices and blood and tissue products. The ones a reader most needs to know about involve catheters and a contaminated start kit, so let's start there.
Boston Scientific is pulling its Imager II Angiographic Catheters because the tip can break off or come loose during a procedure. If that happens, a piece can stay inside the patient or travel through the blood vessels, which may mean a longer procedure or a serious blockage. This is a high risk recall, and it is sold nationwide. If you work in a cath lab or stock these, check your inventory and follow the instructions that came with the notice. AVID Medical also recalled its Halyard IV Start Kits, which may be contaminated with a mould called Aspergillus penicillioides. That mould can cause infection, especially in people who are already unwell, and this is also a high risk recall. Staff should set those kits aside.
Another food recall worth a minute is Berlin Seeds Alfalfa Sprouting Seeds, which may be contaminated with E. coli and Salmonella, which can cause serious infections. If you have a packet at home, do not sprout or eat them. A&D Foods Beef, Pork and Goat Cuts were also recalled because they were produced without inspection, so there is no way to know they were handled safely.
Grand Design is recalling thousands of Reflection Fifth Wheel Recreational Trailers over a solar controller that can send the wrong voltage and damage wiring, raising the risk of a fire or crash. You can find every recall from the week in the full list below.
