The week in recalls
Heart pump kits and sterile trays led the recalls, with leaks and sterility gaps that matter to patients and clinicians. Cars and a few foods filled out the list.
Recall CanaryUpdated
Let's look at what got recalled this week. There were 76 recalls in all, and medical devices made up the largest share of them. The ones that matter most involve heart pumps and the kits used to place them, so let's start there.
Abiomed recalled its Impella heart pumps and introducer kits because the introducer sheaths can leak from under the sheath cap and along the hub score lines. The company says the problem is not something you can see just by looking at the device, and every pump set includes one of these introducers. Oscor separately recalled its Abiomed Impella introducer kits for the same kind of leaking from the sidearm and hub area. Both are high risk. If you work with these devices, check the lot numbers and follow the instructions that came with the recall notice.
Argon Medical recalled cardiovascular and biopsy trays that contain lidocaine ampules which did not meet release criteria for sterility. That means the ampules may not be sterile, so there is a chance of infection. These trays went out nationwide, and they are also high risk.
BMW recalled its BMW 330e iPerformance (2016-2018), BMW 530e iPerformance (2018-2020) because the engine starter relay can corrode and short circuit, which could start a fire. The notice says to park outside, away from your home, until the fix is done. Subaru also recalled its Subaru Ascent (2019-2026), Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid (2026) with an incorrect weight rating on the label, which could lead to overloading. You can find every recall, with lot numbers and contact details, in the full list below.
