The week in recalls
Infant formula pulled over botulism risk, and a heart pump controller that can fail mid-treatment. The week's recalls leaned heavily on devices and vehicles.
Recall CanaryUpdated
Another week, another round of recalls. There were 88 recalls this week, and many of them were medical devices and vehicles. The ones that matter most involve an infant formula and a heart pump controller, so let's start there.
Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Infant Formula was recalled at high risk because it may be contaminated with the bacteria that causes botulism. For babies, that can mean constipation, poor feeding, weak crying and low muscle tone, and it can become serious quickly. If you have this formula at home, stop feeding it and check the recall notice for what to do next. Automated Impella Controller from Abiomed was also recalled because a software error can affect the left ventricular heart pumps it runs, and this controller is used in patients whose hearts need mechanical support, so a failure matters. Hospitals and clinicians should check whether their units are affected.
A couple of others deserve a minute. Arrow International Vascular Access and Catheterization Kits were recalled at high risk because the lidocaine, bupivacaine and saline inside came from a supplier with quality problems, and if the sterile fluid is compromised that is a serious concern. And Ford Expedition vehicles from 2018 to 2024 were recalled because the chrome on the center console can bubble and peel into sharp edges that can cut you.
That is the shape of it. The full list below has every recall from the week, with links to the notices and the details you need to check your own products.
